About Us

We’ve been offering assistance to women and families facing unplanned pregnancies since 1999. We want to share with you our story, our mission, and what we offer to the women and families we serve.

Our Mission

The purpose of the Great Lakes Gabriel Project is to advance the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Church and to respond to Pope John Paul II’s call for a New Evangelization to bring about a “Culture of Life” and “Civilization of Love.” We do this by supporting women in unplanned pregnancies and conducting activities that promote
recognition of the dignity and sanctity of human life from conception to natural death.

Our Vision

We envision a community where abortion is unthinkable in any circumstance, for any reason, and where every child conceived is seen as a gift from God.

We see in the creation of each baby a fresh expression of God’s unfailing love.

Our Story

Great Lakes Gabriel Project began as a ministry in 1999 at St. Bartholomew Church in Columbus, Indiana, 50 miles south of Indianapolis. By the end of the first year, the word had spread through the community, and we had helped 18 pregnant mothers.

We were invited to participate in local hospital committees formed to improve services for pregnant women. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis gave us the approval to carry out our project and provide leadership to other churches throughout the archdiocese.

We soon became a network of churches, otherwise known as the Body of Christ, providing information about abortion and immediate and practical help to women and families experiencing difficult or unplanned pregnancies.

What We Do

We embrace women and families from all walks of life. At the Gabriel Project, participating congregations “advertise” their commitment to life by placing a Gabriel “Sign of Life” in front of their church. The sign, with its toll-free hotline, assures every mother that the local church community cares for her and her family and is prepared to offer her immediate and practical help.

Women and families can call us and receive the pregnancy assistance and support they need.
